Turtles

Recently, a guitar student's family invited me over to their apartment for home-cooked Thai food. I loved being there with them and their creative friends from around the world. We played guitar, sang, told stories, and the dear mom cooked seriously delicious food. I thought it was catered.
I was so charmed to see that my quiet, shy student had turtles "everywhere" - i.e. two living ones that I watched him feed and in crafts hung on the wall. So, at lessons today, I asked him how he had come to love turtles.
I do love being with students as they grow and their lives unfold.

We Did It - Student Performance @ Gizzi's!!!!

I did teach piano for many years in Hawai'i, but this was different. Now, I have students for guitar, voice, piano, songwriting, music theory, and performance wellness. On June 4, 2011, we had our first recital at the West Village coffeehouse where I have often performed. We did it! After months of working on songs and rehearsing in groups, it was exciting to see everyone stretch far beyond what we knew and our hearts grew from working together.
